- Eight early-stage companies join the newest cohort receiving unique support to continue propelling a better learning environment for all
- The cohort includes leading education players driving innovation in assessments, learning platforms and even a youth network
Singapore, 1 March 2023; Singapore’s leading edtech accelerator, EduSpaze, welcomes eight early-stage edtech startups into its unique three-month accelerator programme. The current batch of edtech startups hail from across the region, specifically Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia and India (See Appendix A).
As the sixth cohort entering the programme, they will receive robust support and mentorship to successfully accelerate their progress, product development, scalability as well as revenue generation and attraction of further investments.
“It continues to be an exciting time for edtech with continued innovation across the region. It has always been our pleasure to support the development of learning in this new era of education. We are proud to have brought together the sixth cohort, all of which offer something unique and carry the potential to revolutionise the learning experience for everyone, ” shares Managing Director of EduSpaze, Alex Ng.
Managed by seed capital firm and startup incubator Spaze Ventures and supported by Enterprise Singapore, EduSpaze’s accelerator programme has seen the success of past cohort participants such as Flying Cape, AkadAsia, Binar Academy and ACKTEC Technologies. With the aim to nurture a vibrant edtech startup ecosystem, the accelerator injects up to S$500K of funding as well as offering an environment for pilot project implementations in the region.
Preparing students for the future, a holistic approach to developing key skills, augmented by technology
The conversation around edtech continues to grow, but there are still gaps in the market that require innovation in the industry. According to the 2022 Evolution of Edtech: Activity in Private and Public Markets report, the $6.5 trillion global education industry is still in the early stages of digital transformation, with less than 4% of the market currently digitised.
“We have already seen firsthand the possibilities of technology to deliver content and learning experiences beyond the limitation of in-person classrooms. However, we are presently at a crossroads for education, with even more advanced technologies that could be adopted by educators to remain relevant in the face of the future. Nowadays, there’s also been a distinct shift in the edtech space as it leans more towards holistic and learner-centric approaches as educators and students focus on ‘learning’ rather than ‘schooling’,” adds Ng.
Technology has offered unprecedented ways to transform the learning experience in tandem with increased demand for personalisation and empowering educators and institutions to embrace the enhancement of learning. Programmes like EduSpaze are providing the platforms and industry expertise to accelerate the maturation of the industry and continue to spur innovation.
“Students are being prepared for a world that would be unrecognisable by the time they grow up. It is thus important for them to develop a deep, transferrable skills and character traits across different disciplines. Yet, while this has become widely accepted, learning institutions continue to struggle with evidencing the whole-student. Without a systematic measure of these important traits, holistic education takes a backseat to traditional academic development. At HoloTracker, we push the needle by enabling allowing educators to substantiate holistic growth in their students. With EduSpaze, we find a partner that not only shares our vision for holistic education, but also a key catalyst in driving the next phase of our product, be it product enhancements or regional expansion,” shares Ng Aik Yang, CEO of Singapore-based HoloTracker.
Swati Gauba, CEO of Kidspreneurship comments, “We believe that every child has the potential to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. By joining EduSpaze’s accelerator program, we want to continue empowering and inspiring more students in the Southeast Asian community to gain the skills and confidence necessary to become future changemakers by leveraging their knowledge, expertise and ties to educational institutes in the region.”
