EduSpaze and YCAB Foundation collaborate to launch “EdTech in Indonesia” – an initiative that bridges education gaps in Indonesia

10 April 2025, Indonesia: EduSpaze, Southeast Asia’s leading EdTech accelerator, has recently partnered with leading Indonesian non-profit organisation, YCAB Foundation, to launch a new initiative with the goal of narrowing the widening gap in education access and quality across Indonesia. The “EdTech in Indonesia” initiative connects EdTech startups with local schools through the one-week Go-To-Market (GTM) programme.

Through the initiative, EduSpaze will actively screen companies from Indonesia that offer relevant education technology solutions. Startups selected for this programme will get the opportunity to participate in a fully sponsored, one-week Go-To-Market (GTM) programme, where they will directly engage with schools, educators, and students in Indonesia.

“Recognising that Indonesia’s education landscape is incredibly diverse, serving over 50 million students and 250,000 schools scattered across the thousands of islands within the country, this enormous opportunity is not without its challenges. To drive more meaningful and practical solutions, we need a process that is deeply grounded in a real classroom experience. We hope this programme can foster collaboration between EdTech startups and schools, with a keen focus on localising the solutions and driving real-world impact,” said Alex Ng, Managing Director of EduSpaze.

Startups shortlisted for the programme can gain real-world classroom access, receive expert guidance and support from leading education partners in Indonesia to refine their EdTech solution and continue to scale its impact across Indonesia.

“We recognize that access to quality education is a fundamental right, yet many young people in Indonesia still encounter barriers that hinder their learning and development. Through this initiative, we aim to leverage technology to create innovative educational solutions that are accessible, engaging, and effective. This collaboration with EduSpaze is not just about technology; it’s about transforming lives and creating opportunities for the next generation—especially for those who are often overlooked or left behind. Together, we are committed to fostering an inclusive educational environment where every student has the chance to thrive, regardless of their background,” added Veronica Colondam, Founder & CEO YCAB Foundation.

Bridging the education gap between urban and rural areas of Indonesia

While the urban areas of Indonesia are making strides in education, education systems in rural areas still follow a rather outdated methodology with limited access to quality teaching materials and a lack of personalised teaching tools. Urban areas, on the other hand, are empowered with AI-enabled tools, making sure every student gets personalised teaching recommendations, which makes the overall learning process more effective and enjoyable for all.

However, this raises the concerning trend of students in rural areas being left behind while more developed areas in Indonesia are moving forward quickly, widening the discrepancy in the education system between these two areas. The imbalance is bound to widen the gap in learning outcomes and opportunities for students across the country, impeding the nation’s effort in building an education system that is both inclusive and equitable.

“Bridging this divide is not something that can be solved by a single stakeholder- whether it’s the government body, EdTech startups or non-profit organisations. Rather, it requires a collective effort where all stakeholders work together to create innovative solutions that best benefit the country. When innovators of EdTech startups are given the opportunity to co-create with educators, actively listen to the genuine needs of each school, and adapt their technology based on the respective local context, they’re sure to drive a more practical and impactful solution,” added Alex Ng.

Applications are now open for EdTech startups with solutions aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes in Indonesia. Selected startups will receive full sponsorship from the YCAB Foundation.
